Students at Northern Education Trust Hazlehurst Primary Academy turn detectives on World Book Day

Hazlehurst Primary Academy celebrated a fantastic World Book Day filled with imagination, creativity and a touch of mystery. Students arrived at school dressed as their favourite heroes and villains, transforming the classrooms into a colourful parade of storybook characters.

Staff also joined in the fun, with teachers dressing up as the mischievous Evil Pea, while Principal Mrs Tustin took on the heroic role of Supertato, delighting the children throughout the
day.

The highlight of the celebration was an exciting crime scene investigation. The children became detectives, searching for clues to discover which Evil Pea had kidnapped Strawberry and Banana, played brilliantly by members of the teaching assistant team. Working together, students analysed evidence, discussed suspects and followed the trail of clues to solve the mystery.

In the afternoon, the children were also given the opportunity to listen to some story telling in Hazlehurst’s own ‘Book Cinema’, visiting different classrooms to enjoy some popcorn and listen to a
teacher share a book.

To finish the event, children who show a passion and love for reading were rewarded with a book token for the school’s book vending machine, giving each child a chance to choose a book to keep.
The day was a wonderful celebration of reading, storytelling and teamwork, bringing books to life in a way the children will remember for a long time. Hazlehurst Primary Academy continues to inspire a love of reading and creativity in all its students, and this year’s World Book Day was certainly one to remember.
