We have used the National Curriculum as a basis to create an ambitious and engaging curriculum which allows all children to develop a love of modern foreign languages. Due to the high number of people and countries who speak, use and study French as an everyday language around the world (known as the Francophone community) we have chosen to deliver French as our foreign language option. French is also taught in many of our local high schools and in addition supports the learning of other languages such as Spanish and Italian.
Leaders have planned a curriculum sequenced from the beginning of Key Stage 2 through to clearly defined endpoints at the end of Key Stage 2.
Across KS2, learning consists of 6 half-termly units of work that progressively teaches new, and spirals already taught, knowledge and understanding of the chosen language. There is a focus on the following four elements: listening and responding, speaking, reading and writing.
