Computing
We have used the National Curriculum as a basis to create an ambitious and engaging computing curriculum which allows all children to develop the knowledge and skills to be successful in modern, technological world.
Our computing curriculum is structured within key strands including digital literacy, information technology, and computer science. Students are taught how to use a range of technologies safely and responsibly, whilst also learning about big ideas such as algorithms, problem-solving and a range machine softwares.
Leaders have planned a curriculum sequenced from the beginning of nursery, through to clearly defined endpoints at the end of Key Stage 2. For example, in early years, children are exposed to computation language such as instructions and positional language, moving into more focussed practice using ‘Purple Mash’ schemes of work and a range of ICT devices in Key Stages 1 and 2.
Learning consists of 6 half-termly units of work that progressively teaches new, and spirals already taught, knowledge and skills. Students’ work is assessed and recorded electronically in computing.
Enrichment
We use high-quality texts to support teaching about concepts such as e-safety and responsibly use of technology.
Our children have access to learning mats and knowledge organisers which support development of vocabulary and concepts within and beyond lessons.
Children practise the skills they learn in lessons in computing clubs and additional enrichment activities.
